Washington, DC— Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) voted to rein in administrative overreach and restore the proper constitutional separation of powers by supporting the REINS Act (H.R. 277) and the Separation of Powers Restoration Act (H.R. 288) this week.

Congressman Womack said, “President Biden has signed over 100 executive orders, costing taxpayers over $1 trillion and circumventing Congressional approval. This week, my Republican colleagues and I voted to rein in executive branch overreach, ensure the proper separation of constitutional powers, and prioritize government accountability.”

The REINS Act, H.R. 277, requires affirmative Congressional approval of “major rules,” including those agency rules with an annual effect on the economy of at least $100 million, before they take effect to help restore Congress’ legislative primacy and promote electoral accountability.

The Separation of Powers Restoration Act, H.R. 288, requires courts to apply de novo review to agencies’ legal interpretations of statutes and rules, overriding Supreme Court precedents that require judicial deference to agencies to restore the constitutional separation of powers and promote electoral accountability.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
