Washington, DC— Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) voted in favor of two bills that passed the House of Representatives to prevent the federal government from banning gas stoves.

Congressman Womack said, “This Administration’s assault on gas stoves is typical of their hyper-regulatory environment that aims at the heart of consumer and economic freedom. The left shouldn’t tell Americans how to live their lives, especially when choosing how to cook food for their families affordably. It’s commonsense to support these bills that keep the federal government out of American households.”

The Gas Stove Protection and Freedom Act, H.R. 1615, which passed Tuesday, is in response to the reckless attempt by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) to ban gas stoves. This legislation also prohibits the use of federal funds to ban gas stoves and puts a stop to CPSC rulemaking.

The Save Our Gas Stoves Act, H.R. 1640, which passed on June 14, amends the Energy Policy and Conservation Act to clarify that the Department of Energy may not issue energy conservation standards that would prohibit the availability of a product based on the type of fuel the product consumes. The bill would also prohibit the Department of Energy from finalizing the proposed rule to effectively ban gas stoves.

Nearly 187 million Americans and 5.8 million businesses use natural gas because it’s affordable, reliable, and safe.

Congressman Steve Womack (AR-3) has represented Arkansas’s Third Congressional District since 2011. He is a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
