Washington, DC – Congressman Steve Womack voted in support of H.R. 1163, the Protecting Taxpayers and Victims of Unemployment Fraud Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives with bipartisan support on May 11, 2023. This legislation would incentivize states to recover fraudulent unemployment payments, improve program integrity to prevent future fraud, and extend the statute of limitations for prosecuting fraud.

Congressman Womack said, “Hardworking taxpayers are on the hook for up to $400 billion in fraudulent unemployment insurance, which purpose was for people displaced by the pandemic. I’m proud my colleagues and I passed a bipartisan bill to protect taxpayer dollars and recover potentially billions of stolen UI benefits.”
